Ranking for “electrician near me” is not the win it sounds like

Every trade marketing pitch starts with the same promise: get you to the top for your trade plus your town. It is the wrong target, and it is the reason so much money gets spent on SEO with nothing much to show.

Two problems. First, that search is the most competitive one in your sector and the slowest to move, because every competitor and every lead-generation site is buying and building for it. Second, the person typing it has not decided what they want yet, which is why the enquiries that come from it are the vaguest ones you get.

The money is one level down, in the searches that name the job. Fuse board replacement cost. Flat roof repair or replace. Garden levelling on a slope. Those searches are less contested, they convert far better because the person already knows what they need, and almost nobody in the trades has written a page for them.

What we actually do

  • Find the job-level searches for your trade.

The ones with real volume, a price attached and no serious page competing for them. This is a research job before it is a writing job.

  • Write the page that answers the search fully.

What it costs, what changes the price, how long it takes, and what you would need to see first. Thin pages do not rank any more, and they never converted.

  • Fix what is stopping the site ranking at all.

Speed, structure, internal links, the technical work nobody sells because it does not photograph well.

  • Build the local layer properly.

The profile, the service areas and the town pages that carry the map results, which is a different discipline from ranking a national page.

  • Earn links the way trades actually earn them.

Suppliers, trade bodies, accreditation directories and local press. Not bought, not swapped.

  • Report on enquiries, not on positions.

A ranking is a proxy. The number that matters is how many people rang.

Why the same service comes out differently per trade

A gas engineer’s searches are seasonal and mostly urgent, so the work is about being ready before the cold and owning the service and safety searches in between. A builder’s searches happen months before the money does, and the job is to be found during the reading rather than during the buying. A scaffolder is not being searched by the public at all — the searches are commercial, low volume and worth a fortune each.

The trade pages below have the specific version: which searches, which pages first, and how long each one usually takes to move.

The first ninety days

  1. Weeks 1–4

Technical fixes and the search research, then the first cost and diagnostic pages written and published.

  2. Weeks 5–8

Local layer built out, service pages expanded, internal linking put in so the new pages support each other.

  3. Weeks 9–12

The first pages are indexed and starting to move; what has traction gets deepened and what has none gets diagnosed.

What good looks like

  • You rank for job-level searches, not only for your trade and town
  • Cost pages bring enquiries from people who already know their budget
  • The map results carry the urgent work
  • New pages start ranking faster than the first ones did
  • Enquiries are traceable to the page that produced them

Questions we get asked

How long does it take? Three to six months for meaningful movement on competitive terms, faster on job-level searches where there is less competition. Anyone promising a position by a date is guessing.

Can you guarantee rankings? No, and neither can anyone else — the results are Google’s to arrange. What we commit to is the work, and reporting on enquiries so you can see what it is producing.

Is it worth it for one town? Usually yes, because the job-level searches are winnable at that scale. The question is what a job is worth to you, not how big the town is.

What if I already have an agency? Then the useful thing is the review, which will tell you what is working before you change anything.
