What you need to get it
8 requirements, and what counts as evidence for each.
Company Information
Companies House registration (or equivalent), company accounts, and financial details. Constructionline conducts a basic financial standing check.
Evidence: Latest filed accounts (1–2 years). Companies House number. Turnover and key financial figures.
Insurance Certificates
Public liability (min £5m), employer’s liability (min £10m), and professional indemnity if you provide design services.
Evidence: Current insurance certificates.
SSIP H&S Assessment
Constructionline Gold includes SSIP H&S assessment. You can use a dossier from an existing SSIP member (CHAS, SafeContractor, etc.) if you already hold one, avoiding duplication. Otherwise complete Constructionline’s own assessment.
Evidence: H&S Policy, risk assessments, method statements, accident records, training records. Or existing SSIP certificate.
Quality Management
Evidence of a quality management approach. ISO 9001 certification satisfies this; alternatively a documented quality policy and procedures.
Evidence: Quality policy document or ISO 9001 certificate.
Environmental Policy
Written environmental policy covering waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainability commitments.
Evidence: Environmental policy document.
Equality & Diversity Policy
Written equality and diversity policy.
Evidence: Equality & diversity policy.
Client References
Three trade references from recent clients or main contractors.
Evidence: Contact details for 3 references who can be approached directly.
Online Application
Complete Constructionline’s online application form. All documents uploaded via their portal. Assessment turnaround is typically 5–10 working days.
Evidence: Completed online application.
What you have to keep doing
Getting it is the easy part. Keeping it means:
Annual Renewal
Renew annually. Updated accounts, insurance, and any changed policies must be submitted.
Keep Profile Accurate
Ensure work categories, turnover, and contact details are always up to date — clients search by category.
Is it worth it?
At £800, the question isn’t the fee — it’s whether it wins you work. For builders it usually does, because it’s the first thing a cautious customer or a commercial buyer checks. Most trades hold accreditations and then hide the logos in the footer. If you’ve paid for it, it belongs where customers actually look.

Tracking it
Accreditations lapse quietly. The renewal date lands in a busy month, nobody spots it, and you find out when a customer asks for the certificate. Gaffer keeps your accreditations, evidence and renewal dates in one place and reminds you before they expire.
